STRUCTURE / PROGRESS

Our 20 years' experience has shown us that anyone with the will to learn can master a language. This graph shows the average rate of progress for students studying a language on a Private 1-to-1 basis at the Centre. Rates of progress may vary depending on the type of course (Group, Tutorial, Private) and each student’s previous linguistic knowledge.

In our experience, we recommend a minimum of 24 hours for each student in order to make positive progress. For example if you are a complete beginner, after 24 hours you will be able to:

• introduce yourself
• use pleasantries
• make and understand basic conversation
• use the present tense
• have a base of vocabulary from which to improve
• perform basic touristic tasks

STRUCTURE

Intensive
At the Marlow Language Centre we offer intensive courses in all foreign languages. Intensive courses are designed to allow students to make the maximum progress in the minimum time, and are ideal for those relocating or for clients who need to learn a language quickly. Intensive courses are based on 1 week of 40 hours' tuition (eg tuition every day from 9:00-17:00) or or 20 to 35 hours per week (e.g. 08:30-12:30 every day or 13:00-17:00 every day).

Non-Intensive
At the Marlow Language Centre we aim to be as flexible as possible, and hence offer non intensive courses at times to suit you. These are normally booked in 24 hour slots, and the sessions are taken once/ twice a week for 1 or 1.5 hours.

CLASS TYPES

Private (1 to 1)
This is the most flexible of all the course options. The advantage of 1 to 1 tuition is that classes can be taken at times to suit you. Classes can also be cancelled and re-scheduled at a later date providing you give us 24 hours' notice. 1 to 1 tuition is the quickest and most effective method of language learning. Your teacher will have 1- 2 hours per lesson to devote to you and only you! This enables the teacher to concentrate on your strengths and weaknesses allowing you to make rapid progress with the language.

Tutorial (2 people)
The tutorial option is perfect for those who want to learn with a partner or friend. This option also offers a good degree of flexibility. Learning together can be really fun and tutorial tuition enables students to interact with one another by participating in role plays and other similar activities. The tutorial option is ideal for those who want a slightly less intense language-learning experience.

Group (3-8 people)
Group tuition does not give the same flexibility as the 1 to 1 and tutorial options as classes will be at fixed times throughout the week, normally once or twice a week. Our group courses normally start in September and January, however we do run some group classes at other times throughout the year. This option is great for students who want to mix with other students of a similar level and due to the small numbers in each group progress is guaranteed.
